The relocation of the Mumbai airport headquarters is unfair, according to Sena, Cong; Adani denies, calls it rumor | Bombay News
Maharashtra’s ruling parties Shiv Sena and Congress on Tuesday criticized the Adani group’s alleged decision to move the headquarters of Mumbai airport from the city to Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Maharashtra allies Vikas Aghadi (MVA) called the alleged move an attempt to downgrade Mumbai’s importance. The Adani group, however, denied moving the siege and called it a “rumor.”
Sena MP Vinayak Raut said the party would not tolerate the attempt to downgrade Mumbai’s importance and added that the city’s airport headquarters should remain in the financial capital. Congress has alleged that the move of Adani’s office to Gujarat is indicative of the Modi government, which has moved many prominent projects from Mumbai.
Maharashtra Secretary General and Congress Spokesman Sachin Sawant said that dandiya recently performed as part of the flash mob at Mumbai airport and that the move of Adani’s office is a clear message to locals of Maharashtra. “The Modi government has transferred many key projects, including the International Financial Services Center, Coastal Police Institute, RBI and Air India offices, to Gujarat from Maharashtra. The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) also plans to create an alternative cinema city in Uttar Pradesh. This is a systematic attempt to reduce the importance of Mumbai and Maharashtra, ”he said.
Sawant said it had never been the culture of Congress because it had never extended discriminatory treatment to any of the states. “We have the headquarters of many companies here in Maharashtra. Industrialists have lived in the state for years and they have become an integral part of the state’s culture. This type of bias has never been observed in the state, ”he said.
Sena MP for Lok Sabha of Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Vinayak Raut said: “The relocation of the seat is an extremely condemnable matter. It is yet another attempt to reduce the importance of Mumbai and give more importance to Ahmedabad. Instead, they must give Ahmedabad its own identity and not steal from here. This is happening through the Center, but Shiv Sena will not tolerate it. The party will remain aggressive to keep the headquarters of the Mumbai airports in the city itself. “
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd took over Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) a few days ago from GVK Group. The company in a tweet via its official account said, “In light of the rumors that the headquarters of Mumbai airport will move to Ahmedabad, we unambiguously state that MIAL and NMIAL airports will remain based in Mumbai. We reiterate our commitment to be the pride of Mumbai and to create thousands of jobs through our airport ecosystem (sic) ”.
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has said it is up to the company to decide where it wants to have its headquarters. Mumbai Airport and its offices are not moving anywhere. “Neither Mumbai Airport can be moved, nor its office. A company’s headquarters can be located anywhere in the country. Even the headquarters of GVK was not in Mumbai. It is the prerogative of the company to decide, ”said Nawab Malik, national spokesperson and Minister for Minority Affairs.
