Knapp: AOC unmasks ruling class | Forum

“Native of the working class of the Bronx” served United States Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, as well as “elect me” schtick in 2018.

This was not true – Ocasio-Cortez is the daughter of an architect who grew up in suburb Tony of Yorktown Heights (median family income of $ 137,580 compared to median US family income of $ 68,703) , attended Boston University and interned for US Senator Ted. Kennedy, D-Mass., Before putting together his “just your average waitress” PR package – but it did the political work.

AOC continues to build on this carefully polished mythology, most recently at the annual Met Gala in New York City, where she and the designer of her “Tax the Rich” dress introduced herself as “two working class women. “.

I haven’t heard anyone explain how a “working class” girl like AOC got the $ 35,000 ticket to the gala with the paltry sum of a congressional salary (only $ 174,000 a year; the ticket costs almost as much as the median personal income of the United States, $ 35,977). Unless she manages her money very well, it seems likely that someone gave her the ticket, which makes me wonder what kind of political favors such a large bribe could be intended to buy.

I have to wonder how much money the real working class jerks make every year – waiters, doormen, drivers, etc. – which lurk in the corners of the pictures of celebrities at the Met Gala. I bet this number is closer to the US median than the AOC median.

I also have to wonder what these working class stiffs look like. They had to wear masks while catering to the needs of AOC and his ruling class party colleagues as they hammered him for the cameras, bare-faced so we could admire their pearly whites and hear the right words they had to say. ‘they deigned to speak rather than airbrush on their costumes.

The masked and anonymous service staff included a poor guy filmed trotting behind AOC like a servant to a European monarch, holding the train of his designer dress to keep it from touching the ground.

Marie-Antoinette apparently never uttered the phrase “let them eat cake”, or displayed the lack of awareness or compassion for working class conditions associated with that phrase. Is his unfortunate image as fabricated and mythological as the “popular” claims of AOC?

While her “Tax the Rich” dress certainly grabbed attention, MP Ocasio-Cortez would have been more relevant with a slogan from George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal. that others.”
